Sales Volume Metrics
These are a count of the products sold in a chosen market.
Your chosen market is defined by the selected product group, country and time period plus any additional filters you apply. Keep in mind that a market is limited to the channels that GfK is tracking for a product group within a country.
You can analyze sales volume on various granularity levels such as Market (total number sold across all channels), Brand (total number sold for one brand), or Retailer (total number sold by you) for the chosen market.
Units
This is the default Sales Volume metric used by GfK.
A unit is defined as the full contents of a product as sold. For example, a box of 100 pens is counted as a 1 unit.
Pieces/Litres/Kilos
These are alternative sales volume metrics used for reporting in relevant categories. They give more information about the contents of a product as sold.
Pieces is a count of discrete items within a product as sold. For example, a box of 100 pens is counted as 100 pieces by this metric, but only a single unit.
Litres is a measurement of the liquid volume contents of a product. For example, a 10-litre paint can is counted as 10 litres, but only a single unit.
Kilos is a measurement of the weight of a product. For example, a 5kg bag of compost is counted as 5 kilos, but only a single unit.
As a maximum of one of these metrics is used per category, they are grouped together and shown as ‘PLK’. Therefore the PLK metric would display would display pieces information when viewing the Ballpoint Pens category, Litres information when viewing the Emulsion Paint category, and Kilos information when viewing the Compost category.
For categories where none of these are relevant, the PLK metric displays pieces, which is equivalent to Units. For example, 1 kettle unit = 1 kettle piece.
