Channels page: User guide

Here’s how to dive deep into the performance of different channels

Understanding this page

The Channels page delivers many key insights, enabling you to:

  • Understand how different channels are performing in the market.
  • Identify the channels driving your (or your competitor’s) growth.
  • Compare the share of online vs. offline sales for a new segment in the market.

In this section, the legends of all analyses are split by Channels. For all analyses you can further specify which channel split you want to see using the first orange dropdown in the interactive card title.

The channel options you can see are based on the product group and country selected as context at the top bar of the page.

One option that may be visible is a split of the market into online and offline sales. This option splits all sales into online or offline, no matter which kind of retailer they are coming from.

Apart from that, you may see options to split sales into different distribution channels. In some cases, there may also be an option to split a single distribution channel into further sub-channels. In this case, the analysis will zoom into the respective single distribution channel.

You can find detailed definitions of each distribution channel in this article.

As a default, all analyses on this page refer to the overall market, i.e. across all brands. To see how different channels developed within your own brand’s sales, you need to set a filter to your brand in the filter tray on the right side of the page.

Please note, that when you are on the Channels page, filtering on any channel (e.g. on Online only, or on Electrical Retailers only) via the filter tray will have no effect. Choosing which channel split to view is controlled by the first orange dropdown in the interactive card title.

Click on one of the page tabs to choose between three types of analysis:
  • Scorecard – for an analysis across different KPIs
  • Time series – for the development over time
  • Segmentation – for a comparison by a second dimension

The Scorecard tab

Here you’ll find a summary of how different channels have developed across the KPIs that matter to you.

Click the settings button on the right to define your preferred KPIs.

Distribution KPIs are now available across the platform thanks to the enhanced gfknewron Market experience.

The KPIs presented depend on your subscription and the data available for your selected market.

To configure the displayed information, click on the orange-highlighted element in the interactive card title.

The Time Series tab

See how different channels have evolved over time for a specific KPI.

To configure the displayed information, click on the orange highlighted element in the interactive card title. You can select which channel split, KPI, and time periods you want to be displayed.

When selecting the time period, note that the chosen focus period (the context you set in the top bar of the page) will always appear as the last value on the chart. Use the orange dropdown in the interactive card title to define what back data appears before this chosen focus period.

You can also choose to show a Year-to-Date (YTD) or a Moving Annual Total (MAT) summary to the left of the chart, or hide the summary altogether.

The Segmentation tab

Analyze how the channels developed across different segments, such as product groups, features or brands.

The horizontal breakdown dimension (focusing on brand, in the screenshot below) can be defined by clicking the second orange dropdown in the interactive card title, which will open a window with all the possible selections.

After looking at channels across brands, you may want to see brand shares across channels. To do this, simply select “Brands” in the side menu, navigate to the Segmentation tab and select “Channels” from the second dropdown in the interactive chart title.

Remember, you can also change the KPIs or comparison period via the orange dropdowns in the interactive card title.
